THE ROLE.
Our SEO department has been incredibly successful over the last year, growing to 22 members of the department while increasing MRR by +36% YoY. This growth will continue, and this role is designed for a person with experience managing a department and a client portfolio, who has the ambition to continuously evolve their work in SEO, proven capabilities to build and upskill teams, and understands the value of delivering exceptional client service.
Recently, we've launched a new proposition, Everysearch™, a unique trademarked approach designed to maximise the power of SEO across every searchable platform. A key responsibility of this position will be to collaborate with our Head of SEO to implement this strategy across our existing client portfolio, identify new opportunities and ultimately help our SEO team to continue to scale and grow revenue.
We are looking for candidates with a strong background in SEO, proven experience in leading talented teams, achieving high client retention rates (90+%), and managing senior client relationships. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES.
TEAM MANAGEMENT
Line manage and develop a talented team of SEO Account Directors, supporting them in achieving client retention, performance goals, high Net Promoter Scores (NPS), and long-term development of their own teams.
Identify training needs across the department, ranging from practical SEO knowledge for those earlier in their career, through to mentorship and wider business and commercial development for Account Directors.
Coordinate with specialist members of the department, as well as experts from other teams across the wider business to deliver training to the SEO team, leading to more well-rounded expertise with practical client application. In some cases this will require you to deliver training yourself, in other areas it will be working with the wider business to identify and collaborate with the relevant subject matter expert.
Identify instances where external training may be required (particularly for senior members of the team), and work with the HR/Operations teams to find the most appropriate supplier and deliver the required sessions.
Continue to develop a team ethos of collaboration, support, and shared responsibility. This is currently driven via a monthly in-person team day, and open and frequent communication via internal comms channels.
Establish and maintain robust Personal Development Plans (PDPs) and objectives for your team, actively supporting their development and ambitions.
Lead on internal department planning, including SEO team structure, line management chains throughout the team, forward planning on recruitment needs
Own SEO hiring process, including creation of job specs, alignment with HR team, screening CVs, holding first round interviews, and consulting the Head of SEO on final hiring decisions.
Proactively encouraging cross-team collaboration with the PPC, Social, Data, Creative, Influencer and Growth teams to deliver the best integrated digital strategy for our clients.
CLIENT RETENTION
Client retention is of utmost priority for this role - you will act as the key escalation point of any SEO client concerns, working closely with the Head of SEO and Growth team to maintain client trust and clearly communicate our strategy and it’s effectiveness.
Build and sustain strong, long-lasting relationships with clients, including participation in key stakeholder meetings.
Develop a clear and consistent relationship with SEO Account Directors and the Growth/Client Experience team to stay on top of client retention/contract renewal situations. This includes awareness of contractual status, sentiment of relationship, any retention blockers, and working with senior team members to have a retention strategy in place.
Drive SEO Account Directors to produce award winning work, following which you will be accountable for creation of case studies, and working with our internal marketing team on industry award submissions.
Stay on top of industry trends and news ensuring we’re providing clients with the most relevant and up to date information across the SEO industry.
OPERATIONAL RUNNING OF THE SEO TEAM
Manage the SEO team's Profit & Loss (P&L), ensuring the department is running aligned with budgeted gross profit targets.
Collaborate with Account Directors to optimise account resourcing, ensuring effective and efficient performance growth.
Making sure all tasks are updated in Asana ahead of a new month starting.
Coordination with the business’ wider Operations team on admin requirements and forward planning around staff resourcing and financial status.
Oversee delivery of signed short-term project work, including identifying available resource and/or hand on delivery of work when required.
